Vietnamese street food has earned high praise on TasteAtlas’s latest list of Asia’s top 100 street foods, showcasing the nation’s vibrant culinary scene. With a blend of flavor, tradition, and unique ingredients, several Vietnamese staples have secured impressive rankings.
Banh Mi stands out as a must-try Vietnamese street food, claiming the 4th spot on the list. This iconic sandwich features a crispy baguette filled with a combination of meats, pickled vegetables, and herbs, offering a burst of flavors in every bite. Variations such as banh mi thit, which includes various meats and cold cuts, is ranked 12th, while banh mi heo quay, with its rich roasted pork belly, holds the 47th position.

Beef Pho, a beloved Vietnamese noodle soup, is recognized at 16th place. This dish, known for its aromatic broth made from beef bones and a medley of beef cuts, is celebrated for its depth of flavor. Pho, encompassing both northern and southern styles, ranks 20th overall, with each regional variation providing a distinct taste experience. The lighter chicken pho also makes its mark at 94th place.

Another notable mention is broken rice (com tam), which comes in at 18th. Often served with an assortment of toppings like fried eggs, shredded pork skin, or grilled pork chops, this dish highlights the versatility of rice.

Fried Spring Rolls (cha gio or nem ran) secure the 55th position. These crispy delights are filled with a savory mix of pork, shrimp, and vegetables, wrapped in rice paper, and deep-fried to perfection.

Banh Xeo
, or crispy pancakes, also makes the list at 87th place. These golden-brown pancakes, made from a rice flour batter with turmeric and coconut milk, are filled with scallions, bean sprouts, shrimp, and pork or beef, and are typically served with fresh vegetables and herbs.

Leading the list of top street foods is Indonesia’s siomay, a steamed fish dumpling, followed by China’s guotie, pan-fried dumplings, and Indonesia’s pempek, a traditional fish cake.

These rankings reflect the rich tapestry of Asian street food culture and highlight the global appeal of Vietnamese cuisine. With its diverse flavors and traditional techniques, Vietnamese street food continues to captivate palates worldwide.
