Four Vietnamese Salads Ranked Among World’s Best

Vietnamese cuisine shines as four traditional salads, including beef and chicken varieties, are named among the world’s top 100 by TasteAtlas.


The beef salad, which earned the 30th spot, features stir-fried beef tossed with lime juice, fish sauce, chili, and an assortment of vegetables like cucumbers, carrots, tomatoes, green starfruit, or green banana, served while the beef is still warm.


Coming in at 44th place is "nom", a traditional northern-style salad made from shredded vegetables such as papaya, green mango, and banana flowers. Known as "goi" in southern Vietnam, this salad is typically dressed with a mixture of fish sauce, water, and sugar, and is often served with prawn crackers.


Ranked 45th, mixed pho is a dry version of the traditional pho, served with either beef or chicken and a tangy-sweet dressing instead of broth. Originating from Hanoi, this dish is often garnished with peanuts, chili, and lime.


Vietnamese chicken salad, taking the 77th spot, combines shredded chicken, carrots, and cabbage, topped with roasted peanuts and fried shallots. The dish is flavored with a dressing made of lime juice, fish sauce, and sugar.

TasteAtlas based the rankings on over 13,000 votes collected by August 15, with 7,722 votes recognized as legitimate by the system.

At the top of the list is Greece’s dakos, described as a dry barley rusk called paximadi topped with crumbled myzithra cheese, chopped ripe tomatoes, whole olives, capers, fresh oregano, and a drizzle of olive oil.

China’s smacked cucumber secured the second spot.

In Southeast Asia, Indonesia had six dishes featured, while Thailand had five, and Cambodia and Laos each had one.
