From Hanoi’s opera-inspired luxury to coastal calm, two Vietnamese hotels have earned Michelin’s highest honor for design and guest experiences.
Michelin Guide unveiled its global hotel rating system, the Michelin Key, on Oct. 8, with 13 hotels and resorts across Vietnam being honored in various categories.
Capella Hanoi and Amanoi Resort earned the highest accolade reserved for properties offering outstanding stays: three Michelin Keys.
Located at 11 Le Phung Hieu Street 500 meters from Hoan Kiem Lake, Capella Hanoi (pictured) was designed by architect Bill Bensley with inspiration from 1920s opera houses.
It was his first hotel project in Hanoi after resorts in Da Nang, Sa Pa, Phu Quoc, and Quang Ninh.
The hotel has 47 rooms ranging from 35 to 194 square meters, each with a balcony.
Every room tells its own story about the world of opera through decoration. Room rates start at around VND7 million ($266) a night, depending on the season.
Capella's interiors reflect elegance. Inspired by the golden age of opera, each room feels like an art space, with dressing-room details and bathrooms styled like palaces.
The hotel also has a full spa, swimming pool and leisure areas. The underground spa is designed with colorful decorations.
Guests can dine at four restaurants and lounges: Backstage, Diva’s Lounge, The Hudson Rooms, and Koki.
Backstage is listed as a Michelin-Selected restaurant, while Koki has one Michelin star. Hibana by Koki is a 14-seat dining space where meals cost from VND5.5 million to VND8.5 million ($208 to $323) and require advance booking.
Amanoi Resort nestles inside Nui Chua National Park, a UNESCO-recognized biosphere reserve, in Khanh Hoa Province.
The place enjoys sunshine on more than 250 days a year. Beyond luxury accommodation, guests can hike to mountain peaks at sunrise, explore coral reefs, kayak, or sail, and enjoy picnics by the sea.
The name Amanoi combines "Aman" meaning peace in Sanskrit, and "noi" meaning place in Vietnamese.
Its design blends local architecture with a clean aesthetic featuring curved roofs, stone and wood.
The resort offers 44 accommodations, including pavilions and villas with one to five bedrooms overlooking the lake, mountains or sea.
Options include wellness villas with private pools and residences with personal butlers. Rates for double rooms start at VND20 million (US$759) a night.
Among Amanoi's features is its clifftop infinity pool with views of Vinh Hy Bay and a 30-kilometer private beach.
The minimalist design in granite harmonizes with the park's hills and forests.
Wellness is central to the Amanoi experience. Its spa includes hot stone hydrotherapy rooms, saunas, jacuzzis, and cold plunge pools with treatments ranging from therapies to Vietnamese massages.
Facilities also include studios for yoga and pilates, a gym, tennis court, and several swimming pools.
Dining venues at Amanoi are positioned across the property, from cliff-edge restaurants to beachfront spaces.
Guests can also book private outdoor dining experiences at select spots.
