Vietnam ranks second for South Korean travelers this Mid-Autumn holiday. A new survey reveals rising interest in short-distance, cost-effective trips.
Vietnam has emerged as a leading destination for South Korean travelers during the Mid-Autumn holiday, or Chuseok, according to a recent survey. The country is ranked second among preferred travel spots, with 18% of respondents choosing it as their destination of choice.

The survey, conducted by the Incheon International Airport Corporation in August, queried 1,270 South Korean travelers aged 18 and over who have used the airport in the past five years. Japan holds the top spot with 31.1% of the vote, while Vietnam follows closely behind.

The results indicate that Korean travelers favor destinations that offer short flight distances, favorable exchange rates, and cost-effectiveness. This year, 11.2% of respondents expressed plans to travel abroad during the Mid-Autumn Festival, marking the highest percentage since the survey's inception in 2020. The trend of traveling abroad has seen a steady increase, from 1.9% in 2020 to 9.3% in 2023.

The survey also revealed that 74.8% of participants prefer short-distance travel, up from 70.9% last year. Most respondents (60.9%) plan to travel with family and relatives, 20.5% with friends or partners, 12.6% alone, and 4% with colleagues.

Incheon International Airport is preparing for increased traffic during the holiday period, with an estimated 201,000 people using the airport daily from September 13, supported by special traffic measures.

Vietnam's Mid-Autumn Festival celebrations will peak next Tuesday, showcasing the country’s rich cultural heritage and attracting numerous visitors.
