Hai Phong Ready to Welcome Tourists Back After Typhoon Yagi Recovery Efforts
Go back
Hai Phong's Cat Ba Island and Do Son District have bounced back from Typhoon Yagi, restoring tourism activities and welcoming visitors again.
Local authorities and businesses in Hai Phong’s key tourist areas, Cat Ba Island and Do Son District, have swiftly recovered from the aftermath of Typhoon Yagi, reopening their doors to visitors. These popular destinations, known for their natural beauty and vibrant tourism offerings, were among the hardest hit by the storm.
Swift Recovery on Cat Ba Island
Cat Ba Island, located in Cat Hai District, faced severe damage with blown-off roofs, downed trees, and power, water, and telecommunications outages. However, recovery efforts have been fast-tracked. Nguyen Quang Vinh, vice chairman of the district’s People’s Committee, shared that local authorities and businesses have worked tirelessly to restore vital infrastructure.
As of now, all main roads have been cleared, and about 30% of restaurants and hotels have resumed operations, with expectations that 90% will be fully functional by October 1. Pham Truong, the investor behind the five-star M’Gallery hotel, confirmed that the hotel has fully recovered and will welcome 200 European tourists at the end of September.
Cat Ba is renowned for its pristine natural ecosystems, including the Cat Ba National Park, which is home to endangered species like langurs and black squirrels. Despite the recent challenges, nearly 3 million tourists, including over 800,000 international visitors, have visited the island this year.
Revival in Do Son District
Similarly, Do Son District has rapidly bounced back, restarting its tourism activities with the famous buffalo fighting festival, postponed by 10 days due to the typhoon. The district also hosted the Miss Tourism Vietnam Global 2024 pageant, showcasing its commitment to reviving its tourism sector.
Pham Hoang Tuan, vice chairman of Do Son District People’s Committee, emphasized that these events are part of a larger effort to promote Do Son as a four-season destination. Known for its beaches and modern entertainment facilities, Do Son has welcomed 3.5 million tourists this year and aims to hit 3.8 million by the year’s end.
A Bright Future for Hai Phong Tourism
Both Cat Ba and Do Son play a crucial role in Hai Phong’s tourism landscape. Cat Ba’s rich ecosystems, limestone cliffs, and beaches, combined with Do Son’s mix of historical sites and modern attractions, are key to the city’s appeal. With infrastructure restored and activities back on track, Hai Phong is eager to welcome back both domestic and international tourists.
