Chaung Tha beach is famous for middle households from urban areas in Myanmar. This wonderful beach is a little less beautiful than Ngapali Beach or Ngwe Saung Beach, but the beach is still a nice beach in Myanmar to visit. There are a few hotels stretching nearby, but on weekends or holidays, this beach always full of tourists from the cities.

Moving about 2 km toward the north from Chaung Tha, you will reach the white sand beach after passing through a small pagoda situated on a small cliff in the water. You can choose between taking a motorbike on your own or transfer with a local driver if you are not sure whether you can drive on sand or not. As soon as you reach the beach, you will find out the great place to relax under the coconut tree range with good drinks from the bar nearby.
The large waves on the Chaung Tha beach allow you a fun day with full of amazing activities from body surfing to tubing. Additionally, you can choose to join in horse riding or take a cycling tour to slowly enjoy the fresh air along the Chaung Tha beach. Toward the south of Chaung Tha is Pokala Island where you can meet and observe the daily life of the local fishermen in the tranquil villages. In order to reach the village, tourists are required to take a boat tour and it costs about 1000 kyat. Here spend your time to trek along the island coastline, you will capture the beauty of the secluded beach with tidal mangrove forests and volcanic shorelines.

How to Get to Chaung Tha Beach

By bus

From Yangon, you can catch a bus in with 5 – 6-hour drive to reach Chaung Tha. It cost around 8000 kyats and there will be 2-3 stops along the route.
Note: if you travel from the downtown Yangon, it is better when you set aside the extra hour to travel from your departure to the bus station and extra money to pay for the taxi or local bus, about 300 – 5000 kyats.

By Taxi

If your group has about 3 to 4 people, you can arrange a taxi driver to Chaung Tha. Remember to negotiate the price with the taxi driver to have the best deal.

If you come on the occasion of the high season, it is strongly recommended hiring a boat to explore one of the islands around the beach, or diving to see the ocean fishes. Chaung Tha Beach is about 40km from Pathein in the west of Ayeyawady and will take approximately 6 hours from Yangon by driving.
