Non Nuoc Cao Bang Geopark in Vietnam’s northern Cao Bang province has been recognized as one of the 50 most breathtaking sights in the world by U.S. news site Insider. The geopark, which earned UNESCO Global Geopark status last year, is celebrated for its stunning waterfalls, lakes, and diverse plant life.
Established in 2015 and spanning 3,000 square kilometers along the border with China, Non Nuoc Cao Bang is home to fossils, sedimentary deposits, volcanic rocks, and a remarkable karst landscape, all reflecting 500 million years of Earth’s history.
Located seven hours northeast of Hanoi, the geopark is a well-established tourist destination, boasting over 200 cultural and historical monuments. It connects visitors to other renowned sites in Cao Bang, such as Ban Gioc Waterfall—Vietnam’s largest and the world’s fourth-largest waterfall along a national border, following Iguazu, Victoria, and Niagara Falls.
In April, Microsoft’s MSN included Ban Gioc in its list of the 15 most enchanting waterfalls globally. Other notable attractions within the geopark include Nguom Ngao Cave, Thang Hen Lake, and the Phia Oac-Phia Den eco-tourism area.
Insider’s list also features iconic landmarks such as the Great Wall of China, Nubian Monuments in Egypt, the Eiffel Tower in France, Neuschwanstein Castle in Germany, the Taj Mahal in India, and Japan’s Bioluminescent Beach.
